Human Chiropractic Care

Chiropractors are primary healthcare professionals, meaning you can see a chiropractor without a referral and we are able to assess your overall health and refer you to other professionals when and if required.

Chiropractors specialise in diagnosing and treating conditions arising from mechanical dysfunction of the joints of the body and their effect on the nervous system. Once a diagnosis has been reached, a management plan will be advised using the best evidence-guided approach for each individual.

“The treatments themselves do not ‘cure’ the condition, they simply restore the body’s self-healing ability” – Leon Chaitow

Wellness and Wellbeing

Chiropractic may often be used by people in a reactive context, such as after a sports injury, but it can also be used for prevention. A chiropractic adjustment is aimed at restoring movement to restricted joints and correct exercise alongside can maintain healthy movement. Sprinting (running, biking, or rowing machine), lifting heavy things (not too heavy but with lots of repetitions) and functional training, such as body-weight exercises, TRX, battle ropes and slam balls. Movements in exercise that mimic our everyday movements or positively counterbalance them lead to a healthier you.

Post-Injury Recovery

Within your package of care, we can determine what chiropractic adjustments to include plus other treatment (such as rehabilitative exercises, soft tissue work or laser treatment).  We will consider the various mechanisms that are likely contributors to your pain or injury (or both) and the compensatory movements you are likely to have made to avoid this.

Sports Performance

Sports people often require chiropractic care reactively, due, for instance, to a sprained knee ligament following a heavy tackle on the rugby, football, or hockey pitch/field. James played rugby and rowed at university. However, reaching and maintaining peak performance is surely the most important aspect of a sports person’s game.

Considering the human body as a whole, rather than as a knee, shoulder or ankle injury, is why chiropractic is arguably the perfect intervention in the maintenance of care. Candice played hockey and netball during her school and university years and last year joined a netball team in her village. To us though, sports are more than organised events, they are part of a happy and joyous family life. We all take part in sports whether that is throwing a frisbee, kayaking, cycling or having a kick about in the back garden. You might not compete at a professional level but your injuries will be just as real.

Come and see us on the Monday if you ‘pull something’ on the Sunday. We urge you to not leave it to self resolve because the pain is there for a reason! When a knee is painful but is fine two weeks later the body has most likely compensated for the interference. Chiropractic is about finding the cause and not just taking the pain away! Of course, better still, come for regular ‘MOT’ check ups to prevent a sports injury in the first place.
